WomenCount PAC Makes First Donations
To Four Incumbents, One Open-Seat Candidate

San Francisco, Calif., May 29, 2008 -- The newly formed WomenCount PAC has announced its first set of campaign contributions to women candidates for Congress in the 2008 election cycle. Donations were given to incumbent Democratic Reps. Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and Diane Watson (Calif) and open-seat candidate Tracey Brooks (NY).

“These are all strong women who represent our progressive values,” said Stacy Mason, executive director of WomenCount PAC. “They are not afraid to stand up and fight for our future and the issues we hold dear, such as education, civil rights, health care, and an end to the war in Iraq, among so many others.”

Since its creation earlier this month, WomenCount PAC has advocated for the presidential campaign to continue until every vote is cast and counted and “we know that our voices are heard.” Its next advertising campaign, to be launched next week, will focus on a message to superdelegates after the completion of primary voting.

WomenCount PAC was formed earlier this month to ensure that the 51 percent of American citizens who are women have their values and votes counted in the political process.
